Lunch with Pamela O'Donnell

Pamela O'Donnell, who teaches a number of workshops at College Library, has agreed to do a brown-bag lunch with us!  We'll have the chance to ask questions about library teaching, as well as reference work.  So, my question is, what day works best for us?  (I know there is no solution that will work for everyone, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask).  Pamela is not available on Thursdays, but would be available Monday-Wednesday or Friday the week of March 9-13 (alternatively, we could wait until after spring break).  Please let me know what works best for you in the comments section (this will help me keep the replies all in one place!)

  1. Hi Rachel,

Thank you so much for setting this up with Pamela! What a neat opportunity. I have also been speaking with Sarah McDaniels about doing a brown-bag with us that same week to talk to us about the LILI practicum. Do you think it would make sense to combine the two since they are so similar in nature? We could turn it into an informal instruction/reference workshop or discussion.

  2. I just emailed Sarah McDaniel and suggested Monday or Tuesday of that week because she is leaving for the ACRL conference on Wed.(I blind copied you and Amanda on it, so let me know if you didn't get the email). Let's stay on top of this and make it happen, it sounds like an exciting event!

  3. I didn't get the e-mail. My concern about combining them would be that I think a lot of people are going to have questions about the practicum specifically, and I wouldn't want either of the presenters to feel short-changed. Then again, Pamela would be one of the instructors people in the LILI practicum would possibly end up working with, so perhaps it would work. I'm still waiting to hear back from Eliot Finkelstein, as well. Maybe we could arrange one larger event with all three of them - let's see if Eliot is available that week, also.

Also what do other people think? Would you rather have a couple of separate lunches or one "big" lunch?

  4. I see your point about either doing separate smaller ones, or one very large event. Let's wait to hear back from Sarah now that I've emailed her and see what she says about her availability first. If you give me your email address I can forward you the email I sent her. Email me at jgile@wisc.edu.

    Thanks Rachel :)

  5. I just received a response from Sarah saying that she can do it either Monday or Tuesday the week before Spring Break, but she wants to know as soon as possbile which one we prefer. I still like the idea of a lunch-time brown bag session, and I'm fine with doing either two separate sessions or one big one. Rachel, what days work best for Pamela and/or Elliot? I think these discussions are going to be perfect for advising week :)

  6. Pamela and Elliot both indicated that any day would be fine with them, though Elliot has kind of a crazy schedule and will probably need several days notice.

I myself am not available next Tuesday, so I would prefer to go with Monday if we do them all on the same day or Monday for Sarah and another day for the others. Pamela indicated she'd be fine waiting until after Spring Break, if that was easier for us.

  7. Let's do Sarah on Monday, and pick another day that same week for the others, or the week after Spring Break. If we invite them to come the week before Spring Break, the commons are already booked for Tuesday and Thursday during the lunch hour, and I am not available on Friday, so Wednesday may be best although the conference room may be a possibility on the days that the commons are booked. The week after Spring Break is completely open for lunch hours as of right now. Rachel, do you mind moving forward and booking this with Pamela and Elliot? Once you have confirmed the day and time, I'll book the commons (or conference room) for us and have it posted on the SLIS events calendar. Let me know if you need any help :)

  8. Sounds great - I'll follow up with Pamela and Elliot and see what works for them after spring break.
