Message from Easter, co-secretary of ALA-SC.
We're trying to put together a serious crew to go to the ALA conference to try to cut the costs of going.
Megan pulled some numbers for us and this is what she got:
2 nights/3 days
--- $259.10/person for 6 people (conference reg fee of $120 + parking + lodging + transportation)
--- $237.90/person for 8 people (conference reg fee of $120 + parking + lodging + transportation)
Some people at the meeting tonight were concerned that this was too expensive. It was discussed maybe just going down for one day. In which case, it's only $85 for a day pass plus other applicable costs such as transportation (carpool, van, bus, whatever).
In any case, we will be offering a quick meeting next Wednesday (4/8) at 5pm in the SLIS commons to those people who are committed to going to the ALA conference between 1-3 days as a group in order to cut costs.
If you have any questions, please ask me (esmith8@wisc.edu) or Megan (mkwiseman@wisc.edu).

I think this is a great opportunity for ALA-SC and ALSO members to attend a fairly-local national conference at a reasonable price. I personally cannot attend because I will be out of the country on my honeymoon during the conference, but I will do anything I can to help organize the arrangements for members who do go :)
